Ryan’s Miracle Watch 1/31/16

Ryan would like to wish his brother the happiest of 19th birthdays ever!! Happy Birthday Jacob!! We live in a house with no  close neighbors, so when the boys were growing up, they were each other’s best friends. And, they remain that way today. If Ryan could say it out loud, I know he would tell Jacob how proud he is of him. And, I’m sure Jacob knows it even without hearing it aloud…

How come it’s Jacob’s birthday, yet we get the best present…him?

James 1:17a   Every good and perfect gift is from above…

Side note: I’ll deny having sat through the entire live version of Grease this evening should anyone ask…

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 1/30/16

I’d like to thank everyone who’ve been so kind as to suggest starting a GO FUND ME campaign to purchase a Tobii unit for Ryan. Before doing so, I really want to make sure Ryan is able to use it (although we may never know until we use it consistently over a long period of time) and to vet all of the options for getting one. Sometimes state assistance is available. In any case, I really appreciate all of your kindness. It is such a blessing to us…

So, Ryan has had a really great day. He’s been very calm, and is actually sleeping right now. It’s nice to see him rest like this. It’s gotta be good for him, wouldn’t you think?

Wow! Can you believe it’s already the end of January? Where has the time gone? So, how are y’all doing with those New Years resolutions??

Goodnight…ZZZZzzzz

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 1/29/16

Ryan’s been chillin’ today. Got a hair cut a couple of days ago. Lookin’ good…

Had a little success with the Tobii machine today, but he does get tired quickly and shuts down. We’ve tried different times of the day, different fun programs and different things in general, at different times of the day, but he just gets tired after about 5 minutes. We know he is trying, but do not want to push him at all, so we will go as slowly as he wants to go.

We’ve only got about a week left with this loaner machine before we have to return it. The choice then becomes do we spend the money to buy one? They are not cheap, so we may have to forego it for a while…perhaps until they come down in price. Just like any other tech device (cell phones, TV’s, etc.), they tend to come down after time. Since this is such a specialized piece of equipment, it probably won’t be coming down that much and/or anytime soon. No matter, God will supply if/when He wants to…

Philippians 4:19   And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 1/28/16

So, I’m in a restaurant and two very large women with accents are sitting in the booth just across from mine. I say, “Cool accents. Are you two ladies from Scotland?” One of them yells, “It’s Wales you idiot!” So I said, “Okay. Are you two Whales from Scotland?” I don’t remember much after that…

I don’t know about you, but Ryan got a kick out of that one. Actually, I’m not sure if he did or not, since he didn’t smile or anything.

By the way, other than my stupid joke telling, he’s doing fine today. I just love that kid…

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 1/27/16

Ryan was a champ on the Tobii device yesterday! He gave us about 5 minutes of his undivided attention; and the results, although small, were nothing short of amazing. We know he can see, because his eyes can track a ball moving across the screen. And, we can see he’s trying to answer simple yes/no questions when we ask them by watching his eyes twitch as he attempts to glance at the proper answer. He’s got a long way to go, but it’s not a sprint. It’s a marathon…

A verse Ryan wants to share with you…

I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me faithful, appointing me to his service.       1 Timothy 1:12

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 1/26/16

Watched a movie the other night entitled “The Almanac”; a movie about some kids who have a time machine that allows them to travel back in time…etc. Similar to “Back to the Future”, the kids can change their fortunes and experience things they’d missed, blah blah blah. It got me thinking, If I had a time machine, would I go back in time to change something to create a different outcome? This is a question that has kept me up (tossing and turning) for the past couple of nights, and will probably continue to do so for many many more. First thing that comes to mind is, would I save Ryan from the incident that caused his injury? As any parent who wants so much for his/her child to be healthy, you would think my answer would be a resounding “YES!” But, I’m still wrestling with the truth that God’s plans are His plans, and I don’t have the right to change them, even if it means Ryan would be healthy and I would be happier. After all, if Ryan didn’t get injured, then those lives his story has touched and changed for the better would not have happened. There are many who have received God’s gift of Jesus, reconciled with Him, with their spouses, family and friends. Many have found their calling; their purpose…and many of us are simply more grateful for each and every breath we are allowed to breathe.

I continue to think about traveling back in time. How far back should I go? The furthest back I can think of is to the time of Adam and Eve in the garden; to prevent them from eating the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge…of Good and Evil. But even then, that wouldn’t necessarily change anything, because someone else would just come along later and do the same thing. Free will and Satan are a deadly combination…

There is much more to it than the few words I’ve written here, but I won’t bore you with all the details. Perhaps someday in a book…

In the end, I just need to let go and let God. His ways are far better than mine, even if sometimes they don’t seem or feel like it.

I sure hope a time travel machine is never invented in my lifetime…

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 1/25/16

Ryan’s been sleeping a lot today. Hopefully he’s gotten it all out of his system by the time the Warriors’ game comes on tonight. It’s gonna be a good one vs. the Spurs. Go Warriors! Or Spurs, should you happen to be of that persuasion…

It’s nice having a laptop again. I didn’t know how much I missed writing this post every day. It gives me an opportunity to take a moment and reflect on and appreciate all of the good things God has done, and is doing, for us. We are truly grateful for everything!!

Psalm 9:1-2   I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds. I will be glad and exult in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 1/24/16

Got a new laptop today, so no more excuses for missing a post…

Ryan’s had several quiet days in a row; and that’s a good thing. He’s been getting plenty of rest; again, a good thing. The only problem is that every time we try and use the Tobii device to try and communicate with him, he’s asleep; or more likely pretending to be asleep. We’ll continue to try, just as we continue to pray for his complete healing…

On FB: I was visiting my son last night when I asked if I could borrow a newspaper. “This is the 21st century” he said. “We don’t waste money on newspapers. Here, use my iPad.” I can tell you this…that fly never knew what hit him…

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 1/22/16

Happy Friday Everyone! Had a good time watching Ryan last night. He was an exemplary son, as always. We, rather I, talked about some of the things we used to do together like snowboarding, fishing and restauranting (there’s probably a better name for it). But, I found myself apologizing for not doing enough with him, and promised that when he gets better and if he allows me, I’ll try and make it up to him. There are a lot of things I would like to have done and would like to do. I guess what it all boils down to is I need to make the most of the moments I have with family and friends, so as not to miss those special opportunities to connect and enjoy their company. Perhaps God will grant me a second chance…

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 1/21/16

I apologize for not posting for the past several days. My laptop went kaput, and until now I hadn’t thought to come to my local library and use a laptop here. I’ve never been the sharpest marble in the bag…

So, Janine has been in India on business for the past week, and I’ve had the privilege of watching Ryan during her shifts as well as my own. I truly enjoy spending time with Ryan. I read a book to him. We listened to music and watched TV. Looked out the window at God’s wonderful creation; birds, trees, the sky, rain…etc. Sometimes, and perhaps even the best, we’d just sit there in the quiet…the stillness…It’s kinda like being in the library now. I’d forgotten just how much I enjoy the quiet of the library. I’ll have to come here more often…

Thank you all for continuing to pray for Ryan’s healing. He is blessed beyond measure to have such wonderful prayer warriors interceding on his behalf. May God richly bless each and every one of you!!
