Here is the latest from Holly herself…
Friends & Family:
Looks like I get to go home this afternoon! Yay! They are setting me up to do IV antibiotics at home. Sounds like I’ll need about 6 weeks of that. (This is a little unclear because I haven’t heard if they’ve pinned down exactly what kind of bacteria we’re dealing with or they’re still giving me general broad spectrum antibiotics.) Either way this gives us time to seek out the vascular surgeon at the UW who was recommended to us and to do a little research on our own seeking out the best surgeon for my amputation. (There’s a phrase you don’t use everyday!)
My leg is rather sensitive, especially when I move around. They are sending me home with meds that should cover me for a week but then I’ll need to get back to my pain clinic.
Many of you have asked how you can help us. Other than maybe a back-up ride to upcoming doctor appointments (in case Jim has to work) I can’t think of anything now. After my next surgery it may be very different.
Thanks for the outpouring of love and care! I feel so blessed!
Love, Holly (& Jim)
P.S. You are welcome to share this with anyone interested. Thanks to the many of you who are praying for me! YOU GUYS are my “prayer chain.”
Please continue to pray for Holly. That God, in His miraculousness, would heal her completely…In Jesus’ name!!
Today’s Housekeeping Tip:
“Always keep several get-well cards on the mantle. That way, if unexpected guests arrive, they’ll think you’ve been sick and unable to clean.”
We’ve had unexpected (and expected) guests come and go over the past 5 years, so I wished I would have known this tip at the beginning. Oh well, they’re probably used to me being a slob. At least I don’t run around in my underwear. Now that would be awkward.
At least Ryan’s room is clean; which, if there’s a silver lining in all this, is pretty awesome for a young man to have a clean room. How many of you can say that about your kid/s? I know, they’re the best kids ever…True dat!
Psalm 127:3 Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY…
I will never regret getting old. I know too many people who never had that privilege.
Genesis 5:27 Altogether, Methuselah lived a total of 969 years, and then he died.
I’m sure y’all know the look of contentment. Well, that’s the way Ryan looks today. He’s listening to his music with the most pleasant smile on his face. And, this makes me smile and content…
Sometimes it’s the smallest of things…
Some posts on FB:
“The fact that humanity has to clarify that any lives matter, should be concern enough.”
“It wasn’t a gun. It wasn’t a bomb. It wasn’t a machete. It was a truck. A truck. 2-3 minutes. 84 now dead, including 10 children. Do you understand now? It’s not the weapon. It’s the ideology.”
Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
The Buchanan’s are enjoying a relaxing day at home today. We praise God for peace and comfort…and thank Him for the angels He’s sent to protect us…
Okay all you prayer warriors, it’s time to go to work; although it doesn’t really feel like work when you enjoy doing it…
The following is a request from my wonderful neighbor Gretchen for her daughter Holly. We’ve prayed for Holly in the past, and she needs us to do so again…
“My daughter Holly in Seattle has a serious bone infection and is in surgery now to try to clean it out and get a bone biopsy. But the consensus of the doctors is that they will have to remove the leg clear to the hip once the infection is taken care of.
I reminded my Christian son-in-law that it’s not a done deal yet and we still have time to pray. I’m asking the Lord for His perfect will for my daughter. I would appreciate your prayers also.
Thy will be done.”
FAITH noun: loyalty or allegiance to a cause or a person…as in “Keep the faith”
Have you ever looked back at your past and realized it was God that kept you alive?
I really like Ryan’s new therapist/teacher, and think Ryan does too. For the most part, Ryan’s been attentive and hasn’t shut down; something he typically does with new people. It took an entire year for him to open his eyes and accept his last therapist/teacher. He finally accepted her and she did well by him. I wonder if the fact that his new teacher is a man has anything to do with it?
Anyway, the fun innovative things this new guy has planned sound like they’ll be stimulating for Ryan. Again, the objective is to find ways to interact with Ryan and be able to communicate with him. Lord, Let it be so!
Ryan and I are sitting here watching America’s Got Talent. There’s a ton of talent on this year’s show. I sure would like for Ryan to get better so he might one day perform again. Maybe it’s in God’s plan. Maybe not. Regardless, Ryan will perform again for his Lord and Savior…as will all those who love Him…Well, maybe not all will perform, but we’ll all be praising Him in one form or another…
Psalm 150:6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.
Traveling for work again this week. Away from the family for the third day in a row. Very grateful to God I have a good job that I enjoy. God provides all of our needs. Thank you Lord!
And, He watches over us, even when we don’t know it. I wonder how many bullets he saved me from today? More than I’ll ever know…unless He decides to tell me how many when I get to Heaven. As they say, ignorance is bliss…at least sometimes…Nonetheless, I am aware of God’s grace and mercy and so thankful for it…
Lord, Please pour out an amazingly overwhelming amount of grace and mercy upon Ryan today. Raise him from his bed so that he may be a testimony of your awesome healing power!
God is good! James’ tests came back negative. According to the doctor, everything is normal. His heart is perfectly fine. Praise God!! Thank you all for your unselfishness in praying for James. You see? Prayer does work…
Speaking of prayer working, I’ve got another request. For those who’ve been reading this post from the beginning, you know that from time to time I receive messages about people who have fallen victim to similar circumstances as Ryan. Well, I received one such message a day or so ago (since my computer was down, I’m not sure exactly which day) of a young Christian man named Byron. Apparently, he had some seizures that deprived his brain of oxygen, causing anoxic brain injury and he’s been in a coma for several weeks. His friend Sam has asked if I would pray for him. Well, you know I will, but I know there’s power in numbers (or is it Strength in Numbers?), so not to be selfish, I’m asking you to join me…as if there was any doubt you would…not! Please pray, as you do for Ryan, that God will completely heal Byron in His divine time, and that the rest of us will see God’s plan working in and through this circumstance. All praise be to God!!
And as always, thank you all for your continued love and support!!
