“It’s easy to pray and ask God for help when things are not going well. Sometimes we forget He is responsible for all Blessings, big and small in our everyday lives. Remember to start your day with a simple “Thank you” for lessons learned and those ahead! Faith makes things possible, not easy.”

Lord, I know Ryan is already healed in Heaven according to your promise to him, your child. I’m asking that you heal him while he’s here on earth. Please honor my mustard seed faith ask. Amen

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 1/20/17

A quick clarification regarding yesterday’s post: I mentioned our pool being 2/3 full from all the rain. Well, the pool is roughly 15’W X 30’L X 4’D, and was completely empty prior to the start of these rains. This should give you some idea of just how much rain we’ve had.

Ryan’s had a good day today, despite the intermittent down-pouring of rain throughout the day. If it weren’t for God’s promise that He’d never again destroy all life by flood waters, I’d be a bit scared with all of the rain that’s been falling these past few days. And, the forecast says it isn’t letting up for several more days. God is answering our prayers. He’s giving us the rain we’ve been praying for, but He’s only giving us what we need. He always gives us just what we need. What we learn is up to us…

Genesis 9:11   I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.

9:11 Hmm…interesting…

It’s good to be home. Saw Ryan from a distance, because I’m coming down with something…again! He looks good. Well, doesn’t he always? Yeah, pretty much…

I can see it’s been raining a lot around here, because our pool is about 2/3 full. We oughta take advantage of the situation and stock it with fish. We could make some delicious meals with them. Mmmm…

Tomorrow, our new president will be sworn into office. Please pray for our new president and for our country as a whole.

I Timothy 2:1-2   I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—  for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

II Chronicles 7:14   if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

I hope you’re all enjoying your children while they’re around, because when they’re gone things aren’t quite the same. Those of you who’ve got kids know what I’m talking about. And, those who’ve lost a child have an even better understanding of this. I can’t imagine that at all, and I’m hoping I never have to know it. Tell them you love them just before they walk out the door…or as you tuck them into bed…

2 Thessalonians 3:16   Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way.

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 1/16/17

I’m back east on a business trip for the better part of this week, so I expect Ryan and Janine to be on their best behavior; unlike when Janine’s away and Ryan and I are home alone partying like it’s 1999. How’d y’all like that Prince reference…even though it’s a little late coming? They were watching the Warriors/Cavs game tonight. Ryan was wearing his Warriors socks, which gave them the edge. Jacob made it back safely to San Luis Obispo yesterday. He had today off to get settled in, and will jump back into the school routine tomorrow with renewed enthusiasm. We have a great deal to be thankful for!

Psalm 95:2-3     Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. For the LORD is the great God, the great King above all gods.

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 1/15/17

Jacob just left to go back to school, and we miss him already. Here are some Bible verses for him…

Joshua 1:9   “…Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Psalms 25:4-5     Make me to know your ways, O Lord;  teach me your paths.  Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.

Micah 6:8   He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

Philippians 4:13   I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

And one of Ryan’s favorite passages…

Isaiah 40:30-31   Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

We love you Jacob!!

Ryan and I were reviewing posts on FB the other night, and it seems there are an excessive amount of them about exercising, losing weight, etc. We want y’all to know that we support you in your efforts, but also (and even more so) love you just the way you are. That said, we did find this cartoon to be quite funny…

Ryan’s had a great last couple of days, and we PRAISE GOD for that!

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 1/12/17 Holly Update

Calling ALL Prayer Warriors! Please read the following update about my neighbor’s daughter Holly and pray like you’ve never prayed before…

Dear Team Holly,

It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to give you an update and rally “Team Holly” for continued prayers. I briefly mentioned the need for quarterly cancer scans in my last group email. They were originally scheduled for December 15th, but given the need to surgically remove my non-MRI compatible implanted spinal simulator before I could have any further scans (and the scheduling challenges of doing this over the holidays), the follow-up scans got delayed until Monday (1/9). The GOOD NEWS with this timing was our family had a wonderful Christmas together, enjoying each other’s company and all our favorite traditions. The BAD NEWS is we got BAD NEWS in this first pre-amputation scan: the cancer has metastasized through the blood stream and I now have multiple tumors on each of my lungs. They are giving me around a year to live, but even this is a big guess. Really only God knows.

The next week or so I’ll have a biopsy, additional tests, appointments and discussions about chemo options (which may “buy me some more time”). For us as a family, we’re starting the strange process of talking very openly about this reality, how we want to spend the time together we do have, and the values we want to guide decision-making on this tough journey. As you might expect, this news hits hard, and the immediate family is still in shock processing it all. With so many unknowns, we take comfort in the KNOWING with certainty, the ending of this story: GOD ALWAYS WINS. He is inviting us to find a “thinness” between heaven and earth, and to rest in the hope that He will walk with us in the sorrow. Indeed, in walking this earthly journey of death we are confident God will teach us what it means to fully LIVE for Him.

We appreciate your prayers and words of encouragement. In the coming days, as we know more, we’ll be in touch, and have started a Caring Bridge website which we will use, in lieu of sending group emails. We will post “Team Holly” updates here:
https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/teamhollymiles. There’s a box you can check on the Caring Bridge website if you’d like to receive an email notification anytime we add an update to the site. You’re also free to check the site now and then as you wish. Throughout this journey, our commitment to you – our precious family and friends – is to keep you well-informed and be as specific as we can about our needs and preferences in various stages.

We’ll close with this: we’re confident the moments, conversations, and connections of 2017 will be some of the most precious of our family’s lives, and we’re so thankful for each one of you and the gifts you will give us in friendship and community throughout this journey.

With Love,
Holly, Jim, & our (grown up) kids

I spoke with Gretchen (Holly’s mom and our next door neighbor) today, and she is processing this news. She is such an inspirational lady and quoted this verse to me:

Psalm 112:1, 7-8   Blessed are those who fear the Lord, who find great delight in his commands…Surely the righteous will never be shaken; they will be remembered forever. They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.
