Ryan’s Miracle Watch 5/22/17

Good job Warriors! Yet another sweep of a formidable opponent. Now, on to the NBA finals to face, most likely, the Cavaliers. Get some rest Warriors, but stay sharp…

Speaking of rest, Ryan’s getting plenty of it since his return from the hospital. Hopefully this rest is helping him heal. He sure looks good.

It’s the end of another school year and so many of our kids are graduating from one grade or another. Can you believe how fast the time has flown? Bet you can’t. Cherish the moments…no, make that the seconds…uh check that, and make it nanoseconds. Yeah, that’s better. Point is, the years go way too quickly. Congrats to all the grats!!

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 5/21/17

Ryan’s happy to have his brother home from college for the summer; or at least part of it. He was so glad to see him when he got home just now…NOT! He was asleep, and didn’t bother to wake up. Oh well. He needs the rest after the last couple of weeks he’s had. So, the family is complete and life is good again…not that it wasn’t good before…it’s just gooder now.

Time to sleep…zzzzzzz Good night moon…

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 5/20/17

Enjoyed the pleasure of spending last night watching Ryan in the comfort of his own room. What a blessing to be able to come home to a place of familiarity and comfort. He loved being home so much, he was soaking it all in until around 4:30 in the morning, when he finally managed to get to sleep. He had a great day today. Let’s pray he strings together many many more…

I was able to catch up on some much needed sleep today. Got in about 28 hours. I’d say it was beauty sleep, but the beauty part never happened…

We praise God daily for His loving kindness towards our family, and for the many people who have come out to love and support us. We pray He blesses you as much as He’s blessed us…

James 1:17   Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 5/19/17

I’m working off of a grand total of 10 hours sleep since last Sunday, so if I slur my words…oh well…

We brought Ryan home from the hospital at around 9:00 tonight. It’s sure nice to be home sleeping in your own bed…at least that’s what he’s telling me. I wouldn’t know that feeling, because I’ll be watching him tonight and won’t be able to sleep in my own bed until tomorrow. I’m not complaining, though. It’s amazing how little sleep I actually need in any given day. I’m not sure I want to make it a habit just yet, though…

Here’s a recap of Ryan’s ailments, and what is being and what will be done over the course of the next couple months. He started with a urinary tract infection (UTI), which proceeded to manifest itself in his bloodstream causing bacteria to grow (Sepsis) in the form of E-coli (yes, e-coli), Staff and one other form of bacteria that I can neither spell nor pronounce. Truth be told, I’ve forgotten what it was, so I’ll just go with what I said. Turns out, this was all caused by a kidney stone blocking his urinary tract (at least partially anyway), because he was still able to go (please don’t make me explain it to you). Anywho, that’s the stuff he’s been battling for a couple of weeks now. We went into the hospital last Sunday, because his fever spiked at 103.5. When we got there, he was treated with an antibiotic and sent home. The next day, the doctor called to tell us that we needed to bring him back in because bacteria had grown out in his blood samples (samples that had been taken before). Have I lost anyone yet? So, we brought him back on Monday, where he’s been ever since until we brought him home tonight. He’ll be on a strict regimen of two antibiotics for the next ten days. Then, there’ll be a follow-up conference to update his condition and plan for the removal of the kidney stone, if it hasn’t passed already. By the way, if you’d like to attend the conference, please send me a check in the amount of $642.92 payable to BRET BUCHANAN. Oh, I forgot to mention that he had a successful minor surgery on Thursday evening to insert a tube to bypass the kidney stone. This tube can remain in place for up to a year. Long story short (and it could be much longer if I gave you all the details, but I’m afraid I’ve already lost half of you), he should be fine in a few days, and then some maintenance stuff over the course of a couple months…I suppose.

Anyway, did I mention it’s great to be home? Well, it is. Please make sure you thank the Lord tonight for His provision in your life. He could take it all away from you anytime, so be sure and be grateful for all He’s done for you…but really more for who He is…

Thanks for listening. Goodnight now! Oh wait, I can’t go to sleep. I’ve got to watch over Ryan…such an easy task…

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 5/18/17

So, Ryan has a kidney stone that’s blocking his tube, and most likely the cause of these infections. They’re scheduling him for a minimal-risk surgery at 5 or 6 this evening to insert a bypass stint to allow free passage of urine around the stone. He’ll be in the hospital for at least a couple more days for recovery and observation. Oh joy! Then he’ll have a follow-up procedure in 4-5 weeks to remove the stones…

I think y’all know what you can pray for. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 5/17/17

The bad news is, Ryan’s still in the hospital, and the doctors are considering the possibility of keeping him for another 10-14 days. Ouch! We certainly hope that isn’t the case, because it’s difficult being in a hospital where there is no peace and/or quiet, and the level of care is not what it should be; not because people don’t care about the patients, but because there are simply not enough staff to keep up with the level of care each patient needs, and things get delayed or administered incorrectly, or worse case scenario, not administered at all. So, Janine and I are here for Ryan to make sure he gets the care he needs.

So, the reason the doctors are considering keeping him in the hospital is so they can administer the antibiotics via I V; something we aren’t currently able to do at home. But, it’s not rocket science, and therefore we can either be taught how to do it, or they’ll have to figure out how he can get his antibiotics in a method we can do at home, because we do not want to stay at the hospital any longer than we really have to.

The good news is, Ryan’s responding well to the antibiotics, and his vitals are registering where they need to be.

So, please pray that Ryan continues to progress positively, and that he can go home sooner rather than later. Oh! And that God will heal him completely…soon…

Thank you!!

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 5/16/17

So Ryan’s been in the hospital since Monday with an infection. The bad news is, he’s still in the hospital. The good news is he’s responding well to the antibiotics he’s been given. His temp is back to normal this morning (97.9) and he looks relaxed and rested. Sometimes we all can use some rest, right? Actually, more than sometimes…

Ryan’s room is on the third floor and faces east toward the foothills. Needless to say, he’s got a nice view. I hope he’s enjoying it, because that’s about the only thing good about being in a hospital…well, in addition to the gourmet food. Ha ha! I’m not thinking too clearly because I’ve only had about 4 hours of sleep since Sunday…Yes Shawna, I know; I’m in dire need of a boat load of beauty sleep. Doubt I’ll ever get back on track to that GQ look I was striving for. Is GQ still a thing? Shows y’all how out of touch I am with things…

Anyway, thanks for the continued prayers and well wishes for Ryan. He’s battling this like he’s battled any of his previous trials. With the Lord’s help, he’ll get through this too.

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 5/15/17

So, Ryan’s back in the hospital tonight. Turns out the infection he has is also in his blood, so his doctor told us to bring him back so they could shoot him full of antibiotics to kill whatever it is that’s bugging him. Well, it seems to be working because his vitals are all back to normal and he’s sleeping like a baby. Me, on the other hand (like any of you really cares), is sitting uncomfortably in a school-like chair from the 1950’s surrounded by sounds that can only emanate from inside a hospital next to a lot of sick people. Again, the good news is the antibiotics seem to be working. The bad news is we’ll be spending at least a night in the hospital. Oh the joy! But, we’ll endure whatever we need to in order to assure Ryan’s full recovery. Please continue to pray for him. Your prayers are really working! Thank you…

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 5/14/17

Ryan would like to wish his mom a Very Happy Mother’s Day…and he’s sorry that he had to throw a wrench into it by having to go to the hospital for an infection. You heard it right…we took Ryan to the hospital today for an infection. The good news is, we didn’t have to have him admitted because the antibiotics they put him on did the trick. So, a few more days of antibiotics, and he’ll be good as new…or at least back to his new (well, maybe not so new after 7 years) normal…Anyway, he promises to make it up to his mother for casting a shadow on her big day…

AND, A VERY HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TO ALL WHO ARE MOTHERS!

Isaiah 66:13a   As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you…
