Update on Mark: Mark’s the one I asked you to pray for yesterday as he was admitted to the ER. Please continue to pray for him, and his family. He’s in stable condition, but he’ll have some on-going issues, so some decisions need to be made to help him now and down the road. Your continued prayers for Mark are appreciated.
As for Ryan: Today the Tobii Dynavox technician came to evaluate Ryan, and par usual, Ryan decided to sleep; or shut down to the new person in the room. He was wide awake right before the tech came, and wide awake 5 minutes after he left. Go figure. So, I think what’s best is to rent the machine for a couple of months and play around with it when Ryan is awake and more likely willing to participate. It’s not cheap, but it’s worth a shot…
Also, please continue to pray for him, as his temperature is again elevated (has been for a couple of hours now). As you know, yesterday his temp was elevated for about 4 hours, then it was back to normal until about a couple of hours ago. If history tells us anything, he’s fighting something. We’re just hoping it’s not something we’re going to have to make a trip to the hospital for. That’s always a good time…not!
Anyway, thank you for y’alls’ support. It means the world to us…xoxox
Please pray for Ryan tonight. He has a moderately high fever (102), and it can’t go any higher. His nurse gave him some medicine which seems to be working, but we won’t know until the morning if it’s worked completely. Could be just the change in temperature, which has fluctuated over the past couple of days, going from the mid to high eighties down to the mid-low sixties. Heck, it’s been wreaking havoc on me, so I can only imagine how it must be affecting Ryan. Under normal circumstances, Janine and I aren’t the type of parents that worries when our children have a slight fever, or the sniffles or a splinter, but we need to be on extra alert when it comes to Ryan. I think y’all understand. Anyway, thank you for the prayers I know y’all will be sending up on his behalf…xoxoxo
Will you all please say a quick prayer for a friend of Janine’s brother and sister-in-law’s friend Mark? He has been rushed to the ER for undisclosed reasons. God knows the details. All we need to do is pray for God’s healing, mercy and peace upon Mark…
James 5:15a And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up.
Tomorrow, we’re going to try to do the Skype thing again. Did I mention the Skype thing the other day? I can’t remember, so just pretend I did. Anyway, the people who work with Ryan each afternoon are going to (hopefully) have a Skype session between Ryan and some of their other staff and people they work with. It should be good stimulation for Ryan…as long as he isn’t too tired…But, as always, it’s up to him and there’s no pressure to perform…
On Thursday, a representative from Tobii Dynavox is going to come see if Ryan warrants getting a loaner to work with. If you’ll recall, the first time we tried it he got sick, so we never really had a chance to see what he’s capable of.
Please pray that Ryan will be up for both “out-of-the-ordinary” events this week. Thank you!
Beautiful day today. Had Ryan up in his chair for a few hours. First, we went outside on his deck for about twenty minutes, and then proceeded into the house to watch the Warriors pummel the Jazz. They didn’t just sweep the Jazz in four games, they shampoo’d and vacuumed them. I do, however, like what the Jazz are doing, and they’re going to be good for several years to come. Now for some rest while the Spurs and Rockets duke it out…
Ryan’s hoping everyone has a great week on purpose! He’ll be praying for y’all. Please feel free to let him know what your requests are…
1 Timothy 2:1 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people,
Matthew 18:19 Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.
Hebrews 4:16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Today’s verse from Gretchen…
Hebrews 4:15-16 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
GRACE noun: the free and unmerited favor or beneficence of God
Thank you Lord for your GRACE!
Came home from Shasta, and found out that Ryan still had the hiccups. So, I said “BOO!” to see if it would scare him so he’d stop. Didn’t help. Come to think of it, that method’s never worked for me. Has it ever worked for, or on, you?
Glad to be back and able to see and hug him. Other than the hiccups, he looks good. Of course, that really goes without saying. He’s always looked good…
Please pray for my neighbor Gretchen. She’s been under the weather lately. Despite her condition, however, she continues to bless me with a Bible verse pretty much every day…
May God Give Each of You Much Peace and Blessings!
Sorry about the lack of post yesterday. Janine and I drove up to Mt. Shasta to watch our nieces’ (yes, multiple nieces) in a high school play production of “Grease”. It was fun to watch and they did a fabulous job (yeah, I’m not the best at giving reviews). Wish Ryan and Jacob could have seen their cousins acting and singing. They would have enjoyed it!
As you know, I watched Ryan on Thursday, and he got a case of the hiccups. The nurse said he had them all night long, and he had them when we left for Shasta. I sure hope he got over them. That’s got to be most annoying. As if he doesn’t have enough going on…
As much as I like it up here in God’s country (as some call it), I’m excited to get back home to give my boy a hug…
Ryan and I are awaiting the Warriors game; on in about 20 minutes or so. Hope the outcome is another win for the Dubs!
Ryan had a good day today. His OT tried to set up a SKYPE session with some of their staff and other patients, but couldn’t get the program to work on their end, so we’ll have to try another day. It’s too bad, because Ryan was exceptionally alert and reactive. To watch him prior to the session, I was lead to believe he was excited at the prospect of using the technology. We did play around with an app that distorted our faces, dropped things on us, etc., and he seemed to be engaged. He even laughed out loud a couple of times. Good day. Thank you Lord!
It can take a photon 40,000 years to travel from the core of the sun to the surface, but only 8 minutes to travel the rest of the way to earth.
It would take 1,200,000 mosquitoes, each sucking once, to completely drain the average human of blood.
If you were to remove all of the empty space from the atoms that make up every human on earth, the entire world population could fit into an apple.
Honey does not spoil. You could feasibly eat 3000 year old honey.
If you somehow found a way to extract all of the gold from the bubbling core of our lovely little planet, you would be able to cover all of the land in a layer of gold up to your knees.

The state sport of Maryland is jousting.
Dead people can get goose bumps.
If I saw a dead person get goose bumps, I’d probably get a few bumps of my own…
According to Ryan’s nurses, he had a really good day today. I hope he gets better sooner than it takes a photon to travel from the sun’s surface to earth…
