After watching Ryan for so long, I’m ready to take the MCAT. I’ve got this in the bag. Just look at my goodest knowledge of some medical terms…
Artery The study of paintings
Bacteria Back door to the cafeteria
Barium What doctors do when patients die
Benign What you be, after you be eight
Caesarean Section A neighborhood in Rome
Cat Scan Searching for kitty
Cauterize Made eye contact with her
Coma A punctuation mark
Dilate To live long
Enema Not a friend
Fester Quicker than someone else
Fibula A small lie
Impotent Distinguished, well known
Labor Pain Getting hurt at work
Medical Staff A doctor’s cane
Morbid A higher offer
Nitrates Rates of pay for working at night; normally more money than days
Node I knew it
Yup, I knewd I’m ready. Ryan already calls me Dr. Bret. At least, I think he does…
We’re in SoCal visiting Jacob this weekend. It’s a late 21st birthday celebration. Can you believe Janine suggested we take him out and get him drunk? Yeah, me neither…
Ryan is in the capable hands of his Grandma and Papa this weekend…oh, and his nurses too. We miss him already, but know he’s being taken care of.
God is ALWAYS good…not just sometimes, but ALL the time. Give Him thanks for everything. Yes, everything…
I was inspired by this poem someone posted on FB. Perhaps it’ll inspire you too…
A SYMBOL OF MY FAITH
THAT STRENGTHENS ME EACH DAY
AS I BY GOD’S GRACE
WALK THE NARROW WAY
YOU SEE GOD’S OWN SON
HE GAVE HIS LIFE FOR ME
AND TOOK MY DEBT OF SIN
TO A PLACE CALLED CALVARY
I OWE HIM MY LIFE
AND ALL I’LL EVER BE
ALL HE ASKS IS THAT
I’LL LET HIM LIVE THROUGH ME
SO I RUN THE RACE
EMPOWERED BY HIS GRACE
AND GIVE HIM ALL THE GLORY
AS I LOOK INTO HIS FACE
My favorite line is “empowered by His grace.” If it weren’t for His power, I don’t know what life would be like…not sure one could call it life…
Please continue to pray for our friends Bernard, Luke and Fred. They all seem to be doing as well as can be expected, but their battles are not yet over. We will pray until God completely heals them. Oh, and please include Ryan in those prayers too. Thank you.
1 Corinthians 16:14 Do everything in love.
1 John 3:18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.
1 John 4:19 We love because he first loved us.
Romans 12:9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.
Happy Valentine’s Day Everyone! We pray your day was filled with lots of love and kindness. Oh, and good food too! xoxox
Please pray for another day nurse for Ryan. The one we recently got wasn’t a good fit, and we let her go. The good news is, I once again get to spend more time with Ryan…
If God could close the mouths of lions for Daniel, part the red seas for Moses, make the sun stand still for Joshua, open the prison for Peter, put a baby in the arms of Sarah, and raise Lazarus from the dead, THEN He can certainly take care of us. Nothing we are facing today is too hard for Him to handle…
Jeremiah 32:17 Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.
Ryan had a very good day…for half the day anyway. Then the allergies kicked in, and he was coughing and sneezing a lot. It’s no wonder with all the pollen in the air…and all over our cars, and anything else outdoors. Time for some extra allergy meds…
Other than that, Ryan’s been good. We’ve been watching the Olympics, the Warriors and reruns of Gilmore Girls. NOT Gilmore Girls!
We pray y’all get a good night’s rest…
“I’m a perfectionist with a procrastinator complex. Someday I’m going to be awesome.”
Thank you Kamy and Jared for coming to visit Ryan this evening. He enjoyed seeing and talking to you.
Adding a bit of Topomax back to Ryan’s med regimen seems to have taken the edge off (no more tiny seizures and/or little myoclonic activity). We’ll know in a couple more weeks if everything is balanced, but for now, so far so good…
“The fact that jellyfish have managed to survive without brains for a million years (give or take) gives hope to many people.”
Some Saturday Night Jollys…
” You can distinguish an alligator from a crocodile by paying attention to whether the animal sees you later or after a while.”
“You know when you buy a bag of salad and it starts getting brown and has that gross water in it? Donuts never do that.”
A duck walks into a bar…
“Got any bread?”
“Got any bread?”
“Got any bread?”
“No, and if you ask me again, I’m going to nail your beak to the bar!”
“Got any nails?”
“Got any bread?”
And, last but not least…
“I swallowed a dictionary, and it gave me thesaurus throat I’ve ever had.”
Psalm 126:2 Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.”
WE PRAISE GOD FOR THE THINGS HE HAS DONE FOR OUR FAMILY!
“Grace is when God gives us good things that we don’t deserve. Mercy is when He spares us from bad things we deserve. Blessings are when He is generous with both. Truly, we can never run out of reasons to thank Him.”
Psalm 100:5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.
Happy Birthday to Ryan’s Grandma Susan!
Every M, W & F, Grandma visits Ryan and performs physical therapy. She patiently works with him for a couple of hours to make sure he is as flexible as he can be. And, he is a lot more flexible than most people his age or otherwise. Thank you Grandma Susan! Thank you for taking care of our boy. We hope you have the best birthday ever!
2 Samuel 2:6 May the LORD now show you kindness and faithfulness, and “we” too will show you the same favor because you have done this.
