Ryan’s Miracle Watch 8/21/18

Make a habit of showing kindness to people. You might just make their day; perhaps even change their life for the better. Here are some ideas to help you get started…

Find opportunities to give compliments. It costs nothing, takes no time, and could make someone’s entire day. Don’t just think it. Say it.

Take five minutes to send postcards to sick children who are fighting serious illnesses and want to receive mail. Go ahead and click on the link. Do it!

“Want me to pick something up for you?” If you know someone is overwhelmed – perhaps by a new baby, family health issues, or something else – give them a call when you’re going out to the store. Ask if they’d like you to pick something up.

When it’s summer and hot, give out cold Gatorades/waters to your mail carrier and garbage men. When it’s freezing outside offer hot chocolate to crossing guards, police officers and others.

Send a letter just to “let you know how much I care about you.” How wonderful would it be to get that?

When people are gossiping about someone, be the person to chime in with something nice.

When you look, you’ll find opportunities to perform random acts of kindness. When you take those opportunities to perform acts of kindness, you’ll feel great.

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 8/20/18

Ryan, and the entire Buchanan clan would like to wish our dear friend Chris Kelso a very happy 50th birthday!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRIS!!

Ryan was an exemplary son today (Isn’t he always?). He didn’t backtalk even once. As a matter of fact, he hasn’t backtalked in over 7 years. That makes me a bit sad. I wish he would. Now Jacob, on the other hand…

Speaking of Jacob…He’s a senior at Chapman University in SoCal. He’s a business major and minoring (kind of) in Spanish. Spanish will come in handy while flipping burgers at McDonald’s. Ryan misses him…

I’m sure many of you are missing your children…at least those of you who’ve got children off at college. Ryan and I are praying that God will protect all of them while they’re away. And, we’re praying for y’all’s peace of mind too…

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 8/19/18

Let’s start the week off with a little laugh…or big laugh, depending on your laugh-o-meter…

I don’t understand why people say hurtful things like “Wanna go for a run?” or “Try this kale?”

WIFE: I have a bag full of clothing I’d like to donate.

HUSBAND: Why not just throw it in the trash. That’s much easier.

WIFE: But there are poor, starving people who can really use all these clothes.

HUSBAND: Honey, anyone who fits in your clothing is not starving.

Husband is in intensive care recovering from a head injury…

A lot of people cry when they chop onions. The trick is not to form an emotional bond.

Ryan and I are baching (pronounced batch-ing) it again this week, as the mother figure is away on business. We’ll be watching as many seasons/episodes of GOT as we can fit in for the 5th time…

Hope y’all enjoy your week as much as we’re going to…

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 81818

Today, at 8:18 A.M. and P.M., it was 818 on 81818…Thank you Captain Obvious!

I’m getting older…aren’t we all? (well, not some of you). It seems more and more, I’m missing posts because I fall asleep. I apologize to all you younger folks who stay awake until I post something. You must have been awake or what seemed to be an eternity a couple of weeks ago when I was on vacation. The good thing is, none of you need the beauty sleep, because y’all have so much beauty, you really don’t need to sleep at all…

So, Ryan typically acts up (and by acting up, I mean his vitals go a bit haywire) when the weather changes dramatically, such as yesterday and today, when it got relatively hot. This, however, has not been the case, as he has weathered (no pun intended…or was it?) the fluctuations without incident. We praise God for that! Psalm 188:24   This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

I don’t know why, but it always amazes me how some people complain about it being too hot or too cold. One day they wish for rain, and as soon as they get it, they wish for sunshine and warmth. I get it…somewhat…however, it always reminds me of the Jews wandering around in the desert. They complained all the time; especially when it came to food to eat. Manna, again?!? Hey people, it’s something to eat! Be thankful! It’s not always easy to do…but, if you/we practice being thankful as much as you/we can, it becomes habitual/natural/routine…part of our DNA.

Perfect practice makes perfect. I know I’ll never be perfect…far from it…but I’ll do my best…

Ecclesiastes 9:10a   Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might…

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 8/16/18

Posted on FB today:

“Special request for all you kids returning to school in August: If you see someone who is struggling to make friends or being bullied because he/she doesn’t have many friends or because they are shy or not as pretty or not dressed in the most “in” clothes–PLEASE step up! Say hi or at least smile at them in the hallway. You never know what that person might be facing outside of school. Your kindness might just make a BIG difference in someone’s life!”

This was posted for kids going back to school, but it’s a lesson for all of us…anytime/anywhere. Ryan has a lot of friends that still love him today, because he stepped up and tried to make ALL feel welcome. Just one of the countless qualities about Ryan that I love…

Let’s put this into practice starting NOW…

Ephesians 4:32   Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Colossians 3:12   Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 8/15/18

Proverbs 4:23   Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

Guard your heart…

HEART   noun:   the locus of feelings and intuitions; the choicest or most essential or most vital part of some idea or experience

Acts 13:22   And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave their testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.

After mine own heart…

God called David “a man after His own heart”. Despite all of David’s shortcomings/imperfections (to put it mildly), God honored and blessed David. Why? Because David had absolute faith in God and did whatever God asked him to do.

If God honored David (an adulterer and murderer), just think what He will do for you/me (with all of our shortcomings/imperfections) if we have absolute faith in Him.

You know, we can move mountains if we have faith the size of a mustard seed?

Matthew 17:20   He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Oh! And, you can move mulberry trees too! Luke 17:6

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 8/14/18

Ryan’s been doing really well these past few weeks. All vitals are right where they need to be. He’s making my job really easy. Y’all should enjoy your jobs as much as I do. Okay, mine’s not really a job. It’s getting to hang out with my son every day. My commute is about 100 feet from my bedroom to his. With traffic the way it is these days, I’m grateful I’m not having to fight it. We watch TV, listen to music, read, relax, sleep, talk (I do most of the talking…so what else is new?), eat…and pretty much anything we want.

Now, if God will restore him to brand new, we can run, dance, shoot pool, swim and do all sorts of physical activities. Eh, who am I kidding? If/when he’s completely restored, he’ll want to get as far away from me as he can. He’ll want to hang out with his friends. Can’t say that I blame him. And, that’s quite alright with me…

Lord, Please heal my son now. I will be forever grateful. Amen

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 8/12/18

I’m going to bed early tonight, so tomorrow will come more quickly and I can watch Ryan. We’ll start the day, as always, by reading the Bible. We’re somewhere in the book of Ezekiel.

Psalm 119:103   How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

Sleep well…

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 8/11/18

We made it home…and, in good time too. YAHOO! The only delay was between Vacaville and Fairfield where traffic came to a slow crawl while people gawked at the burnt grass from yesterday’s fire….OOOOOOOOOOO! Spectacular site!!!! NOT! What a waste of valuable time…

Anyway, we are happy to be home. We got to see Ryan, and he seems happy to see us. He opened his eyes when we came into his room. Of course, anybody would open their eyes after being woken up by all the racket we made. So, I’m not so sure he was glad to see us. We were, however, very happy to see him. It’ll be nice to get back into the daily routine of spending time with and watching over him…

Thanks for supporting him in prayer while we were away. Your prayers worked…

Hope y’all are having a great weekend on purpose!
