I get the pleasure of watching my boy tonight, because his noc nurse has to report for jury duty tomorrow morning. I love the peacefulness of his room in the wee hours of the morning…
The Thanksgiving holiday is upon us, but the spirit of the holiday should be part of our daily lives. Each night before going to bed, I reflect upon the day, and thank God for EVERYTHING. Yes, everything.
What are you grateful for?
“If you suck at playing the trumpet, that’s probably why.”
Ryan’s had a couple of good days in a row now. Can’t say that about the air quality outside, though. It’s still reeking havoc around the Bay Area. Gonna have to keep the windows closed until it clears up. They say it’s supposed to rain somewhere around Tuesday or Wednesday. But, you can never count on the weather reports around here. I think being a weatherman (or weatherperson or weatherthems) is the only job you don’t get fired for guessing and being correct half the time. I should have been a weatherman (no “person/thems” correction necessary here, because I know what gender I am)…
Ryan would like to be the first to welcome his brother Jacob home for the Thanksgiving week! Now that’s something to be thankful for!
Please pray for the health and well-being of all those affected by the Camp Fire that’s still burning out of control in Butte County. Smoke from the fire has the Bay Area at its worst pollution numbers in 20 years. Most of those who venture outside are wearing masks. It’s a bit eerie to say the least. I wonder if the smoke is the reason Ryan has been spiking a temperature these past several days. It’s certainly something to consider…
Here’s a little snippet from the Bible passage we read this morning:
John 9:1-4 As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
“Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me.”
I believe Ryan’s situation happened “so that the works of God might be displayed in him.”
Thank you for continuing to pray for Ryan’s complete healing for this very reason…

You don’t really wash your hands…they actually wash each other while you just stand there and watch.

If dentists make their money off people with bad teeth, then why should we trust a toothpaste that 9 out of 10 dentists recommend?
Please don’t make me explain any of these to you…
Thank you all for praying for Ryan! He’s feeling much better…fever down, etc. I think we’re getting better at observing and diagnosing Ryan’s symptoms, and treating them early to prevent any unnecessary trips to the hospital…at least, we’ve managed to keep the hospital at bay for the past year plus. It’s bad enough (exhausting) to be home watching him suffer, but magnified when in the hospital. So really, thank you for all of your prayers! They mean the world to us…

“There is nothing more terrifying than being unheard.” – Frank Underwood, House of Cards
I heard this line tonight, and had to turn the TV off. Today, I spent a few minutes trying to see if Ryan could move his fingers (any of them) in response to my asking him to. There was some movement, but it’ll take a lot more time to determine if it was voluntary. Take as long as you want Ryan.
I so want to communicate with him…
DEFEATED adj: what the devil is (notice the tense…it’s already done)
1 John 4:4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
Hebrews 2:14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil
Revelation 12:10-11 And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.
James 4:7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Fill yourselves with all things God, and there will be no room for the devil.
The devil saw me with my head down and got excited. Then I said, ‘Amen!’
I was very happy to get home to see Ryan. He greeted me with a whimsical gaze as I told him all about our little getaway this weekend. I’m extremely tired, so I’m going to bed now, so I can be wide awake when I get to watch him tomorrow. Praise God for watching over Ryan while we were away! Oh! And thank you to his wonderful Grandma Susan and Papa for watching him as well…
Janine and I area in Denver visiting some friends this weekend. Please pray that Ryan is good for his grandparents and nurses. Thank you!
Here’s a joke for all you mind readers out there…
Ryan would like to wish his parents a Very Happy Anniversary today!! TTTHHHHHIIIIRRRRTTTTTYYYY-TTTWWWOOOO YYEEEEEAAAAARRRSSS! Whoa, that’s a loooooooooong time! It’s hard to imagine, we got married when I was 8 years old, but hey, we got married young back in the day…
Ryan gave me a wonderful present this morning when I told him…a smile. Second best gift ever!
First best gift:
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
