Ryan’s Miracle Watch 6/3/19

As Ryan and I continue to read the Bible from cover-to-cover for the second time, we’re beginning to understand the sequence of history, etc. We’ll look at each other and say, “Oh yeah! I remember that now!” and “I think I know what happens next.” We’re so proud of ourselves…

I often think back to my childhood day (I know, since I can’t remember what I ate for breakfast this morning, how could I possibly think back to my childhood days?) in children’s church; those days when I was encouraged to memorize Bible verses. I’d be given a single verse or passage every Sunday, and be expected to recite it from memory the next. As I grew older, I stopped memorizing verses, and have long since forgotten many of them. If only I had kept up the practice (perhaps discipline is a better word), by now I may have committed the entire Bible to memory. Probably not, but I’d like to think so. Well, I’ve heard people spew phrases out like “there’s no time like the present to start something new”, “what are you waiting for”, and “today is the first day of the rest of your life”, and other phrases that elude to some similar meaning. Therefore, starting now, I think I’ll take a lesson from my childhood and do my best to memorize a verse or two each day.

At this rate, I’ll be able to recite the entirety of God’s word in several hundred years. Don’t you doubt me for a moment! Methuselah lived 969 years.

Philippians 4:8   Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
