Ryan’s Miracle Watch 8/31/19

Happy to report Ryan’s gotten over whatever it is that was bugging him, and he’s resting comfortably. Please continue to pray for stable weather, as extreme temp fluctuations are what seem to trigger these episodes.

And, as long as you’re praying for stable weather, I encourage you to also pray for the weather around the world; that God will stabilize it as well, and protect people from the harsh effects…and especially those who do not have the protective comforts (solid homes, air-conditioning, heaters, etc.) that I/we may take for granted.

Be kind to everyone you come into contact with tomorrow…

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 8/28/19

Rough day for Ryan today…the first half of it, anyway. Must be the pollen in the air, because Ryan didn’t stop coughing/sneezing for four hours straight. Gave him some Benadryl, but it only lasted a few hours, then right back to sneezing. Poor guy. I like to sneeze, but only a couple of times in a row. Stopped in to see him an hour or so ago, and his nurse said he’s doing much better. Let’s hope he gets some rest tonight and has a great day tomorrow…on purpose!

Y’all have a great day on purpose tomorrow as well!

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 8/27/19

Congratulations are in order for Ryan and me! Today we achieved our personal best; successive days alive…

John 11:25-26   Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

TIRED   adjective:   depleted of strength or energy…what I was this weekend

Tonight I was thinking how tired I was this weekend. With the exception of doing a couple of minor chores, I pretty much vegged out both Saturday and Sunday. Just now, as I sat down to write, I opened up a daily devotional my mom sent me a couple of weeks ago, directly to a page entitled “Labor of Love”. It reads as follows:

“Have you ever had a job where the work was so routine that you were bored, watching the clock, willing the shift to end so you could get on with something you really enjoyed? Or maybe your job demanded so much of you physically, mentally, or emotionally that when you returned home, you wanted nothing more than to put out a large DO NOT DISTURB sign and “veg out” for the evening. Or perhaps you found yourself counting the days until retirement.

Caring for a special-needs child or adult can become tedious if we look at it as a necessary chore instead of a ministry blessed by God. A terminally ill loved one who needs around-the-clock care can be a drain on our resources, and we may find ourselves wishing the ordeal would soon end.

God says that any job, any ministry, is profitable. Don’t look at the clock, wishing the time away. If you are too exhausted to reach out with God’s love to others, then reevaluate what the Lord would have you do in service for Him. But don’t hold out on serving Him because you are too “tired.” He gave us His all because of His love. Respond in love for Him and give your all, showing His love to others.”

Ecclesiastes 11:6  Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well.

In other words, go to work in the morning and stick to it until evening without watching the clock. You never know from moment to moment how your work will turn out in the end.

Nehemiah 8:10b   …for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

Y’all have a great week on and with purpose!

Psalm 89:1   I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations.

It doesn’t matter to God if you can’t carry a tune. Sing away…or at least make some noise. As long as it comes from a joyful heart, God doesn’t care.

Psalm 100:1-2   Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.

1 Chronicles 28:9a   And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought.

Ryan’s Miracle Watch 8/22/19

Today felt like earthquake weather; calm/still/stale, a little on the warm side, not a totally clear, but close to, sky. Those of us who live in California know what I’m talking about. And, when it feels like earthquake weather, it kind of makes me feel a bit uneasy. That same uneasy feeling applies to dramatic weather changes as it might mess with Ryan’s health; not in a good way. Last week and until a couple of days ago, the temp was in the low to mid-seventies. Yesterday it shot up to the low nineties. Today was a little cooler (88 degrees), but still on the warm side. Ryan’s had a bit of a temp going into this evening (I’ve been watching him this afternoon shift too, as his nurse called in sick today), and has been (like me) a bit unsettled. I’m hoping he’ll relax and gets a good night’s sleep; something he hasn’t had for the past few nights.

Please pray this is a tiny glitch in what otherwise has been a stellar several months, and that God will continue to heal him. Thank you.

A Rather Tired But Hopeful Father

PS- He did laugh out loud and smiled for me this morning. I love it when that happens!
