Ryan was one of those kids who thought he knew everything about anything, and the way he delivered his version of the truth would sometimes have even the most learned of people convinced an untruth was actually a truth. One such time was when he was around 7 or 8 years of age. We had just finished attending a Christmas Eve candlelight service in Walnut Creek and were on our way to Hayward (around 1 in the morning). Anyway, he decided to ride with his grandparents instead of us, and somewhere along the way he convinced them he knew how to get to Hayward, and that GPS wouldn’t be necessary. After all, he’d been to Hayward a million times before. Let’s just say it took them much longer to arrive at their destination in Hayward than it should have. We almost called in a missing persons report…
“I hate it when people act all intellectual and talk about Mozart while they’ve never seen one of his paintings.”
I hope Ryan’s learning a lot of things as he lays in his bed communing with God…
