Ryan’s Miracle Watch 11/13/19

Yesterday, my neighbor shared the following story with me. I’ll leave out names for now, because I’m not sure if I’m allowed to share them, but will when permission is given…

So, my neighbor’s son (and my friend) founded, and has been running, a charitable non-profit Christian organization for at least as long as I’ve lived here (33 years). His organization operates entirely on donations, which have been around $1 million annually…give or take. Some years are leaner than others, but God’s always supplied just what they’ve needed (isn’t that the way it always is?). Now, a million dollars sounds like a lot (it does to me), but it really doesn’t go as far as one might think; and especially in today’s economy.

My neighbor’s husband (who passed away many years ago) had a cousin living in Redwood City ( a town about 30 miles away from my house). He was a judge; and I only mention this to make this story a bit easier to follow. The judge’s wife’s birthday happened to be the same day as his cousin’s, my neighbor’s husband’s. Every year, on their birthdays, the two couples would get together and have dinner, and over the years the cousins and their spouses got to be very good friends. Now, the judge and his wife were very philanthropic people, and would donate a little money every year to my neighbor’s son’s organization.

Several years ago, the judge died, leaving his wife as his sole heir, as they had no children of their own. The judge’s only other living relative at the time, and with whom he was very close, was his brother. His brother was the founder of a very large, very well-known company; which, everyone reading this will recognize. Eventually (a few years ago), the judge’s brother passed away, and left all of his possessions, including his company’s stock to the judge’s widow; as he had no wife or children of his own.

Last year, the judge’s widow passed away. A few months ago, the lawyer of the deceased widow called my neighbor and told her that the widow had left some stocks in her will to be divided amongst four charities; one of which was the Christian organization her son runs. Long story short, the stock that she left to be divided amongst the four charities is currently worth $120 million. Now, I’m no mathematician, but I believe divided by four, that comes to $30 million each.

Now I realize receiving an inheritance is not an unusual occurrence. It’s certainly nothing out of the ordinary, and might not be considered a “miracle” by the masses. But, I believe in this case, it’s definitely a miracle for my friend’s Christian organization, and the countless lives who will be touched/blessed by it.

LUKE 16:10   Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.
