PARENT noun: a father or mother; one who begets or one who gives birth to or nurtures and raises a child
The day Ryan was born is the day I became a parent; more specifically, a father (a male parent). What an amazing day that was. I remember the day like it was yesterday. I was sitting under a giant oak tree in the hospital courtyard reading a newspaper while Janine was signing in for an appointment with her doctor, when a nurse walked up to me and stated that Janine’s water had broken, and she was about to deliver our baby. Without looking up and without hesitation, I responded with, “I’ll be in after I finish reading my paper”. Out of the corner of my eye I could see the blood race out of her face and her jaw drop to the ground in utter shock that I’d said such a thing. “Just kidding!” I said, and immediately got up and followed her into the ER where Janine was already being prepped to deliver Ryan. He was born a few minutes later (C-section because Ryan was breach).
I don’t know how much nurturing I did for Ryan over the years, but know he’s nurtured me way more than I ever did since his injury. What a blessing from God he is!
Now, the best Father’s Day present, EVER, would be for God to completely restore him. Please Lord…
Proverbs 23:24 The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him.
