I went to bed early last night, and forgot to post. I even forgot it was daylight saving time, and that an hour would be lost. I don’t like daylight saving time, and really don’t like forgetting. Sorry, I forgot where I’m going with this…
Thank God for technology that automatically sets my clocks/alarms! Even though we lost an hour (did we really lose an hour…I think not), Ryan and I made the most of the day. We really didn’t notice, because today was just like any other day…A day the Lord made! And, it was good…despite the Warriors losing to the Suns. Speaking of technology: I got this new phone (an iPhone) and discovered Bitmoji. I made myself a Bitmojian (don’t really know any Bitmonese and, quite frankly, couldn’t care less). Anyway, my Bitmorph doesn’t look anything like me. Hey, why not give myself hair…and a better physique…and teeth…and pretty eyes?? Ah, but God knows my heart…
Psalm 139:23-24 God, see what is in my heart. Know what is there. Put me to the test. Know what I’m thinking. See if there’s anything in my life you don’t like. Help me live in the way that is always right.
Oh! At least my car clock is correct again!
Great moments turned into great days turned into a great week! I hope y’all had the same experience as we did in the Buchanan house. This is the week the Lord made. We’re rejoicing and being glad in it. And, we’ll be rejoicing tomorrow and the next day and the next and the next infinity!!
“I’m doing crunches twice a day now. Captain in the morning and Nestle in the afternoon.”
“After all the eating I’ve done this winter, I’m happy to report my flip-flops still fit.”
Oh! Don’t forget to turn your clocks forward this weekend!
“The hour we lose this weekend was the one I was planning to go to the gym.”
Laughter is good for the soul…
Day 3 of Ryan’s new program went well. Like yesterday, he responds to different stimuli, and tracks with his eyes…although we can tell it’s a strain for him. I can only imagine…But, I continue to encourage him to keep trying…remembering the times I would encourage him to “fight on” when he was little. He’s a strong young man, and IS going to do amazing things. Just you wait and see…
Hebrews 10:23-25 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.
Ryan had his second session today, and again stayed awake through the entire thing. So far, he responds positively to brighter colors; tracking them with his eyes as they are moved back and forth. Duller colors, on the other hand, not so much. He also looks at Kristie when she talks to him; much like he does with Janine…and sometimes me. We really believe he’s in there and wanting to communicate, and only time will tell if he can do these things consistently, and on command. So far, he’s off to an excellent start. Atta boy Ryan!! We know you can do it!!
Ryan had his first “new” session today, but I wasn’t here to find out any details about how it went. I do know he was awake the entire time. Changing the time slot to one that he’s awake most of the time was a good move on our part. I’ll find out what/if any positiveness (is that a word?) resulted and will post tomorrow. These things take time…sometimes weeks, if not months…Thank you for praying for Ryan!!
“What time is it?”
“I dunno. Pass me my trombone and I’ll find out.”
—blows trombone loudly—
Someone shouts: “Who’s that playing the trombone at 2 A.M.?”
Ba dum bum…
Your diet is not only what you eat. It’s what you watch, what you listen to, what you read, the people you hang around. Be mindful of the things you put into your body, emotionally, spiritually and physically.
February is gone?!?!? It’ll soon be 2020…unlike my vision…which is fading with age. Oh, don’t count me out yet. I can still spot a flea on a tick on a dog a mile away…but can’t see anything directly in front of my nose. Good thing we have a Dollar Tree close by. I purchase ten pairs of glasses at a time and put them everywhere…all rooms in the house, cars, garage, toolbox, etc.
So, we enjoyed a relaxing weekend around here. Took in a few movies (thank you Netflix, Amazon Prime & HBO), watched a few pro sporting events, listened to music, and stared out the window at the rain. The things on my 30-year old to-do list will have to wait…perhaps another 30 years…Please, don’t tell Janine I said that.
Quote of the Day: You never appreciate what you have until it’s gone. Toilet paper is a good example.
Here’s to y’all having a great week on purpose!
You will never look into the eyes of someone God doesn’t love. Always be kind!
Met with Futures Explored today; the organization that sends someone to visit Ryan on a daily basis. We discussed revising their visits to focus on seeing if he is able to consistently communicate with us. They’ll be designing curricula and coming 3 days a week to work with him for an hour. This will be a good/consistent way to evaluate any progress he is able to make in the direction of communication. When it works (positive thinking and a lot of prayer), we’ll explore current technology to convert any ability (the slightest twitch, blink of an eye, eye tracking, breathing differently, etc.) into a formal means of communication. Please pray for Ryan to be awake during these sessions, and that he’s up to the challenge. Ah, what am I saying? Of course he’s up to the challenge…
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.
Here’s an updated version of one of yesterday’s whimsical jokes:
I wish that whoever prayed for all this rain would pray for Ryan’s healing…
Yup! Much better…
